आदिशङ्कराचार्यस्य वर्णनम्
शुद्धाद्वयज्ञानगुरुं नमामि योगेश्वरं शङ्करदेशिकं तम् ।
भाष्यैः सुधावृष्टिभिरेव लोकं त्रैवेद्यसारं विमलं व्यलक्षीत् ॥
संन्यस्य सर्वं स्वयमक्षयात्मा स्वबोधरूपेण बभूव सिद्धः ।
दिग्दन्तिमौलौ विनिवेश्य कीर्तिं वेदान्तरत्नं जगति प्रकाश्य ॥
धर्मसंस्थापनं च
लीलायां एकत्रिंशदब्दमात्रे संसारचिन्तामपहाय धीमान् ।
स्थानेषु पञ्चासु न्यधात् स धर्मं संन्यासधर्मं श्रुतिपारगं च ॥
शारदामातुः करुणां च पश्यन् संस्थापयामास निजां प्रतिष्ठाम् ।
शान्तिं समस्ते हृदि संप्रवेश्य ब्रह्मविदां मध्ये वरिष्ठतामा ॥
महापरियवायाः महिमा
आनीतवान् भूमितले विभान्तं चन्द्रेन्द्रमौलिं गुरुमप्रमेयम् ।
यस्यैव मूर्त्यां परिपूर्णशक्तिः शङ्कररूपेण पुनः प्रकाशितम् ॥
साक्षान्महायोगिवपुः स ईदृक् श्रीचन्द्रशेखेन्द्रगुरुः प्रतीतः ।
तेनैव मे चित्तनिवासभूतः शङ्कः सदा भाति हृदि प्रकाशः ॥
जगद्गुरोः स्तुति: शङ्कररूपेण
भात्येव तस्मिन् नवरूपधाम्नि श्रीसत्यचन्द्रे महतीनुग्राहम् ।
मन्दाकिनीव श्रुतिसारमूर्तिं यं पश्यतः शङ्कर एव भूयात् ॥
शान्तः स एवोपनतिः करिष्ठा मोहौघनाशाय कृपामयो हि ।
श्रीचन्द्रशेखे यदि दृश्यतेऽद्य शङ्कर्यहं पश्यमिव प्रपन्नः ॥
शुद्ध-अद्वय-ज्ञान-गुरुम् – The guru of pure non-dual knowledge (Advaita);"Teacher of untainted absolute non-duality"
नमामि – I bow down (to)
योगेश्वरम् – The Lord of Yoga; master of spiritual discipline
शङ्कर-देशिकं तम् – That teacher Shankara (Deshika = revered teacher, guide)
भाष्यैः – Through his commentaries (on the scriptures)
सुधा-वृष्टिभिः एव – Like showers of nectar itself; "with rain-like nectar"
लोकं – The world
त्रैवेद्य-सारं – The essence of the three Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama); the distilled wisdom
विमलं – Pure, untainted
व्यालय्क्षीत् – He revealed, illuminated, made clearly visible
संन्यस्य सर्वं – Having renounced everything; "giving up all (worldly attachments and possessions)"
स्वयम् अक्षय आत्मा – Being himself the imperishable Self; "the undying (eternal) Self in embodied form"
स्वबोधरूपेण – In the form of Self-realisation or self-knowledge
बभूव सिद्धः – Became the perfect one (a Siddha); "attained perfection/enlightenment"
दिग्दन्तिमौलौ – On the heads of the elephants of the directions (i.e., symbolic of conquering all quarters); "gloriously reigning in all directions"
विनिवेश्य कीर्तिम् – Establishing his fame/glory
वेदान्तरत्नम् – The jewel of Vedanta (i.e., highest truth of Upanishads)
जगति प्रकाश्य – Making it shine forth in the world; "illuminating the world with it"
लीलायाम् – In divine play (indicating effortless ease)
एकत्रिंशत्-अब्द-मात्रे – In just 32 years
संसारचिन्ताम् अपहाय – Abandoning all concerns of the worldly cycle
धीमान् – The wise one
स्थानेषु पञ्चासु – In the five (matha) seats or locations
न्यधात् स धर्मं – He established the dharma (righteous path)
संन्यासधर्मं – The path of renunciation
श्रुतिपारगं च – That which is grounded in deep understanding of the Vedas (śruti)
शारदामातुः – Of Mother Sharada (goddess of wisdom)
करुणां पश्यन् – Perceiving her compassion
संस्थापयामास निजां प्रतिष्ठाम् – He established his own enduring tradition or legacy
शान्तिं समस्ते हृदि संप्रवेश्य – Infusing peace into all hearts
ब्रह्मविदां मध्ये – Among those who know Brahman (the Absolute)
वरिष्ठतामा – He became the most eminent one
सत्यं स मे – Truly, this one whom I (my heart) acknowledge
चित्तविभावितः – Realized/envisioned in the heart or meditated upon
अयं – This (divine personage)
मोहौघहन्त्री – Destroyer of the flood of delusion
करुणानिधिः सन् – Being a reservoir of compassion
शान्तस्वभावः – Peaceful by nature
गिरिशाधिपः वा – Or perhaps Lord Shiva, the Lord of Kailasa
शङ्कररूपेण – In the form of Shankara
कृतं नु पुण्यम् – Has some immense merit (puṇya) taken shape?
येन उपनीता – By whom was led or initiated
धरणी पवित्रा – The earth into sacredness/purity
श्रीचन्द्रशेखेण – By Sri Chandrasekharendra
नवं प्रभातम् – Into a new dawn
मन्दाकिनीयाः प्रवहः इव – Like the flow of the Mandakini (celestial Ganga)
धर्मः शृण्वे – Dharma is heard/perceived
महाशङ्करभावम् एकम् – As one essence/form of the great Shankara’s spirit
