திரிசடை

 The Ramayanam is an epic, because, though the original was composed by Valmiki in Sanskrit more than 3000 years ago, multiple versions of it have emerged over time, in different parts of Asia. Trijata is a motivational character in the Valmiki Ramayana, who constantly boosts the confidence of Sita it live on, in Ravana's captivity. 

The name Tri-jata itself is interpreted differently in different works and situations. In Sanskrit, Tri-jata is one who has 3 plaits of hair.  ( 3 ஜடை) . By attributes, Valmiki describes her as an OLD Rakshasi, ever willing to be on the side of Dharma (Sita), much like Vibhishana was. 

She is portrayed as a great Shiva Bhaktha . So, much like the Vilva leaf that is used to do puja to Shiva, and has immense therapeutic value (Bilva is one of the three leaves in Triphala, an Ayuvedic medicine, which focus on mental well being of the individual). 

Also, in the Valimiki Ramayana, she appears in 3 scenes exactly!  With the sole objective of motivating Sita. 

தமிழில் திரிசடை என்பது சித்தர்கள் போன்றோர் தரித்து இருக்கும் சிகையைக் குறிக்கும். ஒரு வேலை ஆரோக்கியம் அவ்வாறே முடியுடையோரோ என்னவோ! அல்லாது, "திரிசடையோன்" என்பது சிவனின் மற்றோரு பெயராகும்.

கம்ப காவியத்தில் சீதை திரிசடையை "அன்னையே!" என பல முறை அழைக்கிறாள் . வால்மீகியோ , திரிசடையை வயது முதிர்ந்த ஒரு நல்லிதயம் படைத்த அரக்கியாவே சித்தரிக்கிறார். 

கம்ப ராமாயணத்தில் சீதையின் தாய் யார் என்பது சரியாகக் குறிப்பிடப்படவில்லை. ஒரு வேளை தாயைப் பிரிந்து தவிக்கும் அவளுக்கு திரிசடை தாயைப் போல காத்ததினால் "தாயே!" என்று அழைக்கிறாளோ? 

பிறப்பினால் அரக்கியானாலும் குணத்தால் மிக, மிக உயர்ந்த ஒரு பாத்திரமாக கம்பன் அவளைச் சித்தரிக்கின்றான். 

"ஆயிடை, திரிசடை என்னும், அன்பினால்

தாயினும் இனியவள்தன்னை நோக்கினாள்"
